miniMixdown Episode 17 - Guru Tribute Mix

Hip Hop lost two big contributors this week to cancer: DJ Hideo and Keith Elam, better known as GURU from the group Gang Starr. I was actually going to do another mix before I heard the news regarding Guru's passing. But with this news, I felt compelled to make this short tribute mix and put that other mix on hold for now.

Guru was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma in February from complications resulting from the cancer. His signature monotone voice and lyrical mastery will always be remembered. He is indeed the Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal. RIP July 17, 1966 – April 19, 2010

miniMixdown Episode 16 - Usher

I made this mix quickly before packing up my DJ Equipment to move back down to SoCal. The Kut Kitchen has been closed for 2 months now since I've been working out of LA...so while I'm up in the Bay to take my PE exam, I decided to make this mix as well.

Someone was talking about high school reunions this past week, and it made me think of some songs I heard when I started high school. I think Usher's "U Make me Wanna" made a lasting impression on my mind. It's really one of the only songs I can remember the first time I heard it during my freshman year of high school. So that's pretty much the inspiration of this mix! Hope you enjoys it! (oh and please pray for me so I can pass this Professional Engineering exam!)
