21XL gets crazy at the after after after after party

I was hanging out w/ 21XL for the after after after after party to World of Dance at Cha Cha Cha's on Mission is SF. They had really good tapas there...and the sangria is off the chain. It's a creeper. Somehow a challenge was issued between Mica and Joey to see who can down a whole pitcher of sangria first. The following video shows how it went down.

Asians tend to hang out in front of restaurants for a long time before going home. when you get a bunch of drunk LA cats hanging out in front of a restaurant in San Francisco, the gayness comes out in full force.

....and of course, since i'm hanging out w/ 21XL, i had to get a drop from Myron.

random thoughts about music

We as the local neighborhood DJ's sometime complain that a lot of the music thats on the radio is whack. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of decent mainstream music out there! But I'd say that about 75% of whats on the radio is garbage. Why is that? As DJ's we're supposed to be showing off what good music is. God gifted us with a talent and an ear for good stuff, yet we're not using that gift to it's full potential.

I honestly think if we really supported the artists we like...and by support, I don't mean just simply playing their music...I mean REALLY support...like promoting their music, shows, events by hitting the street, I think we can take back that power of letting the community know what's hot instead of the Record Labels and guys in suits determining what should make money.

But we gotta earn that respect from our listeners too. Step our game up as a DJ and put some good tapes together...and lets do it regularly so that music fans have a chance to hear whats good from us...the gate keepers to good music. Use that talent for good, Mr. DJ!

R.I.P. Mr. Magic

Another legend passes this year. He debuted in 1983 on WBLS-FM in New York City with the first ever rap show on radio called "Rap Attack"

Shouted out by Biggie ("Every Saturday, Rap Attack, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl" on Juicy), Nas ("I miss Mr. Magic" on Halftime), 2Pac ("cut up the hits" on Thug Style), Lauren Hill ("Peace to Mr. Magic, things are getting tragic." on the Nappy Heads Remix), and even having his own show in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Mr. Magic helped paved the way for hip-hop radio.

Magic's show featured Marley Marl as the DJ and Tyrone "Fly Ty" Williams as the show's co-producer. Magic's reign on the New York City airwaves lasted six years and was vital in broadening the validity of hip-hop music.

Here's a RAP ATTACK fo dat ass!
